From Stable Diffusion to a services business
Stability AI built Stable Diffusion, the model that opened generative imagery to everyone in 2022. Under CEO Prem Akkaraju (in the seat since 2024) it has pivoted from open-model lab toward an enterprise creative-tools company, with a professional-services arm to match. The FDE seat is the tip of that motion: getting Stability's image, video, 3D and vector models running inside a customer's actual production stack.
What 'forward deployed' means in generative media
Most FDE roles wire an LLM into enterprise data. This one is different: you adapt generative and multimodal models to a customer's datasets, brand constraints and existing creative tools, carrying a problem from ambiguous brief to prototype to production. Think controllable generation, multi-view consistency and brand-constrained output — VFX, game art, ad creative, e-commerce imagery — rather than retrieval over documents.
Who the customers are
Stability's recent partnerships point at where you'd deploy: Universal Music, Warner Music and Sony Music on the music side, Electronic Arts on games, and earlier work with agency giant WPP in advertising. These are large media and entertainment accounts that want generative models embedded in their pipelines, not demos. Expect the work to sit between Stability's research and a studio, agency or label's production team.
Comp and the stack that signals level
The board doesn't disclose comp, and as a company that restructured heavily in 2023–24 you should pin the number down early rather than assume frontier-lab bands. The role is pitched mid-level, 4+ years. The real tell of seniority here is the skill stack the posting asks for — production ML delivery, PyTorch, controllable and multi-view generation — not a posted salary range.
Remote, but not hands-off
The seat is US-remote with periodic travel for customer workshops — a lighter on-site load than Palantir-style embedding, heavier than a pure product-IC job. You'll still be in the room when a studio or label defines the problem, then back to remote for the build. If you want customer-facing generative-AI work without relocating to a customer's city, this is one of the few seats that offers it.
The bet you're making
Stability's story is recovery, not hypergrowth: an August 2026 raise, new entertainment-industry backers, and a board that now includes James Cameron. The upside is a real turnaround in a category Stability helped create; the risk is a company still rebuilding its financial footing, with comp you negotiate without a public band. This is a domain bet — generative media — more than a comp bet.

What experience do they want?
Strong software engineering plus generative-AI, computer-vision or graphics experience, Python and PyTorch, and shipped production ML. A creative-domain background (VFX, games, animation, advertising, e-commerce, 3D) is highly desirable. It's pitched mid-level, 4+ years.
Is it really remote?
