The framework the industry prototypes on
LangChain is the open-source framework a huge share of AI developers build agents on — over 90 million combined monthly downloads and 110,000-plus GitHub stars. Around it sit LangGraph (orchestration for long-running, error-recovering agents) and LangSmith, the paid observability, evals and deployment layer that generates the revenue. Founders Harrison Chase and Ankush Gola effectively created the agent-framework category in late 2022.
'Deployed Engineer' is the same seat, renamed
LangChain calls the role Deployed Engineer, not FDE, but it is the familiar motion: embedding with customers from pre-sales technical wins through co-designing agent architectures to post-deployment advisory across the suite. The twist is leverage — you deploy on tooling you help maintain, into customers who already know the framework, which shortens the distance from prototype to production.
