Our take
Why Camunda
Ground floor of Camunda's first FDE cohort — a rare chance to define the deployment motion for ProcessOS, its new agentic-workflow product, from zero.

- Remote-first
- Comp
- Undisclosed
- Stage
- Late-stage
A good fit if you're…
- Engineers who want to write an FDE playbook from scratch, not inherit one
- People drawn to process orchestration, BPMN and agentic workflows
- Those who want a remote-US seat at an established vendor, not a garage startup
- Candidates comfortable with undisclosed comp and founding-cohort ambiguity
What Camunda is, and what ProcessOS changes
Camunda is an established process-orchestration vendor built around BPMN workflow automation, trusted by 700+ organizations including 9 of the top 10 US banks and running millions of workflow instances a day. ProcessOS, announced at CamundaCon in May 2026, is its new agentic layer — it discovers existing processes from operational data, re-engineers them around defined outcomes, and continuously improves them against KPIs. The AI Process FDE is the deployment arm of that launch.
What “forward deployed” means here
True embedded work standing up a brand-new product. You own the journey from a customer's first process file to a working, self-improving system: stand up a Camunda cluster, debug integration failures, and get ProcessOS live in their environment. The mandate on the posting is unusually concrete — one improving workflow live in 90 days, three-to-five deployed customers in twelve months — then you hand a functioning capability to the customer's team and feed code and patterns back into ProcessOS development.
The founding-cohort bet
This is the first FDE cohort Camunda has stood up, and specifically for ProcessOS. Being early means you write the deployment playbook — outsized influence over how the motion works — paired with the ambiguity of a function being built from zero inside a larger, established company. That combination is the real pitch here, more than any single comp number.
The technical bar
The role wants customer-facing engineering experience plus hands-on production AI: context management, prompt engineering and agent testing. You should be able to stand up a Camunda cluster and debug real integration failures. It's a blend of orchestration/BPMN fluency and the newer agentic-AI skill set — a narrower overlap of skills than it first sounds, which is partly why the cohort is small.
Comp & leveling
Comp is undisclosed on the posting. As an established late-stage company (Camunda closed a $100M Series B in 2021), it can pay competitive market bands with equity, but the headline number isn't the differentiator — founding-cohort scope and agentic-workflow ownership are. Expect leveling tied to deployment outcomes rather than years-in-seat.
Who thrives, and who bounces
Thrives: engineers who want to define a role, enjoy customer-facing delivery, and are fluent in both workflow orchestration and agents. Bounces: anyone who needs a mature playbook, disclosed comp up front, or a pure-IC seat — the job is explicitly about building the motion, not slotting into one that already exists.
Questions candidates ask
Is the comp really undisclosed?
Yes — the posting lists no band. Camunda is an established late-stage vendor that can pay competitive market comp with equity, but you'll likely learn specifics in-process rather than from the listing.
Is this remote?
Yes, it's remote within the US. That's unusual for an embedded FDE role and reflects ProcessOS deployment being more software-integration than on-site field work.
What does “first FDE cohort” actually mean for me?
You're helping invent the deployment motion — defining how ProcessOS gets stood up at customers — rather than following an existing playbook. High influence, high ambiguity.
What's the 90-day / 12-month mandate about?
The posting sets concrete targets: one improving workflow live in 90 days and three-to-five deployed customers in twelve months — a clear, outcome-based definition of success that's rare in brand-new roles.
